𐙚 ABOUT OUR ORGANIZATION
Kappa Phi Lambda (ΚΦΛ) is an Asian-interest (but NOT Asian-exclusive) sorority grounded on three pillars: Sisterhood, Service, and Cultural Diversity. Established in 1995 at Binghamton University, Kappa Phi Lambda is one of the largest and fastest growing Asian-interest sororities in the country, with 33 active chapters and associate chapters nationwide. The ladies of Kappa Phi Lambda hold academic excellence to the utmost importance, as well as bettering ourselves and our community.
Founded in 2002, our chapter (Xi, or Ξ, Chapter) at Northeastern University is 235 sisters strong, making us the first and largest Asian-interest sorority chapter on our campus. We take pride in creating strong leaders and giving back to the community while forming everlasting bonds of sisterhood.
𐙚 WHAT IS RUSH?
Recruitment (or "rush") is a two-week period at the beginning of each semester, full of events for prospective members to have a great time bonding with our sisters while learning more about what makes our organization so special to us! We can’t wait to meet and get to know all of you
*** All rush events are completely FREE and non-binding, making recruitment a great way to get to know people on campus! All you have to do is show up.
𐙚 DO I HAVE TO BE ASIAN TO JOIN?
No, you do NOT have to be Asian! We are an Asian-interest, but NOT Asian-exclusive organization. We have sisters from all over the world ranging from Boston, LA, New York, New Jersey, Indonesia, Singapore, China, Korea and more. Through this sorority, we've come to learn, value and respect every type of culture--we are a second family away from home. We have many different nationalities and ethnicities represented within Kappa Phi Lambda, and, as a cultural sorority, we welcome and strongly encourage diversity.
𐙚 HOW DO I KNOW IF KAPPA PHI LAMBDA IS RIGHT FOR ME?
The best way to determine if a particular sorority is right for you is if you find that its values coincide with your own, you believe in its mission, and you are interested in the types of events that the sorority organizes. We are looking for women who are passionate about our three pillars of sisterhood, service, and cultural diversity, and for women who will be able to uphold these pillars and continue representing our chapter within the Northeastern community. We strongly encourage you to come out to our rush events as they are non-binding, in order to get to know sisters and potentially find where you belong. We encourage you to be yourself and share what you’re passionate about!
𐙚 HOW DO I GET A BID?
A bid is a formal invitation to take part in our potential new member education process. In order to be eligible to receive a bid, you must complete rush requirements, which are attending 3 events and 1 general interest meeting. After fulfilling those requirements, you then qualify for an interview, which is the final step in determining your receival of a bid.
𐙚 WHAT IS THE POTENTIAL NEW MEMBER PROCESS LIKE?
Shortly after accepting your bid, you will start your journey towards sisterhood through our potential new member education (PNM) process. The purpose of the process is to challenge you, teach you more about yourself, and about the history and sisters of this sorority. The process will also help you prepare to become an active sister by providing leadership and event-planning opportunities. As with any organization on campus, the process requires your time and dedication. Holistically speaking, it is meant to be a positive experience for you to grow, learn more about yourself, and discover what it means to truly be a Kappa.
